What is the Central Credit Register?

Central Bank of Malta Directive No. 14 obliges credit institutions (banks) licensed by the MFSA to provide information on any existing client who has an end-of-month balance of exposures exceeding €5,000. This non-anonymised information on borrowers and their credit exposures, is securely stored in the Central Bank of Malta’s Central Credit Register (‘the Register’). The borrowers comprise both legal and natural persons but exclude credit institutions. Banks are required to provide this information to the Central Bank of Malta by the twentieth calendar day of the month following the month to which the balances refer.

How do you access information about yourself on the Register?

There are two ways in which you can request access to an extract of your information: (1) by filling an online form or (2) by sending a request via registered mail.
