YOUR ONE-STOP RESEARCH HUB
As from Monday 11 May 2020, the library of the Central Bank of Malta will once again be open for researchers wishing to access its collection. In an effort to safeguard both staff and patrons from the spread of COVID-19, patrons are requested to book an appointment at least 24 hours in advance by email, indicating their name and surname, ID card number, and the date and time of the visit. Entrance is solely through the gate at Pjazza Tritoni. Patrons will be required to identify themselves to security personnel via the intercom outside the gate; they will also need to fill in a declaration form and have their body temperature reading taken. In line with the directives of the national health authorities, patrons are to wear a mask or visor at all times on the Bank’s premises.
The library will be open from Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays, from 9 am to 3pm.

The Central Bank of Malta Library has the most prestigious library collection in Malta as far as banking, finance and economics are concerned, aiming to become the island’s principal hub of debate and research in these fields.
The uniqueness and the size of its collection – with titles dating back to 1921 – make it an invaluable laboratory for scholarly researchers.
Researchers have access to:
- over 12,000 books
- academic journals
- reference material
- Central Bank of Malta publications
- Malta government publications
- CD-ROM databases
- local newspapers and several online newspapers
A monthly acquisition list is posted, helping you to flag new titles that might be of interest, and our users are also invited to bring to our attention titles that we may have missed.
Our new electronic platform offers extensive search capabilities and includes the library catalogue, an electronic journal database and a collection of e-books. Many publications have, where appropriate, been digitised and can be accessed online by registered users.
Registration is free and users may normally borrow publications for up to three weeks, although reference material cannot be removed from the Library.
Patrons can also visit the Library, situated in Laparelli Building, across the ditch from the Central Bank of Malta’s main building (access from City Gate or Gilormu Cassar Avenue) where specialised library personnel are at your disposal to answer any queries and assist with the use of the electronic collection, answer reference questions and help to locate specific research sources.
Click on the Register Tab above to sign up. Once the registration has been confirmed, you can use the Login Tab to access the online platform.
