Peter J Baldacchino was appointed as Member of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Malta for a period of five years with effect from 14 April 2013. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants and of the Malta Institute of Accountants and holds an M. Phil in Auditing and Corporate Governance from the University of Loughborough.
Mr Baldacchino is Head and Senior Lecturer - Financial Strategy and Auditing at the Department of Accountancy, FEMA where he has coordinated the introduction of the Master in Accountancy in 2012. Since 2006 he has also acted as Rector's Delegate-Financial Affairs at the University and its representative on the Accountancy Board. His research publications in various accredited accounting and economic journals and his presentations in international conferences relate to microstate corporate governance, internal and external auditing and financial management. Positions held include that of Director Member of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Malta (1996-1998), consultant in financial institutions, foundations and cooperatives (1998-2002), a Director at Maltacom (now Go) plc (2002-2007) - the latter position including that of Chairman of its Group Audit and Risk Committees - and a Director of the University of Malta Group of Companies (2006 to date).
