The Central Bank of Malta marks World Statistics Day 2020

Statistics Day on 20 October 2020. World Statistics Day is a United Nations initiative aimed at highlighting the achievements of official statistics premised on the core values of service, professionalism and integrity, while seeking to strengthen the public’s awareness of, and trust in, official statistics.

As a major producer and user of statistics, the Bank has a special interest and role in this area. In particular, it strives to ensure that its contribution to the collection, compilation and dissemination of statistics is efficient and of high quality. In this regard, the Bank’s primary requirements are for monetary, financial, external and other economic statistics, which provide the basis for its advisory, analysis and research role. It is the Bank’s intention to continue to contribute to the upgrading and strengthening of the statistical compilation process in Malta, in cooperation with its stakeholders.

The increasing demand for timely and reliable statistics implies a constant need for specialised statistical skills and for the application of new technologies. The Bank has invested significantly in its statistical processing platform, which consequently has enhanced the whole spectrum of its statistical and data processes. These processes include the collection, validation, production of aggregates, the publication, dissemination and the transmission of statistics to European and other international institutions.
