On 22 August 2016 the Central Bank of Malta will issue a new euro coin set dated 2016 in a brilliant uncirculated version. The set incorporates the eight Maltese euro coins as well as a €2 coin depicting the prehistoric temples of Ġgantija.

The Central Bank of Malta and MaltaPost are launching on the 6 August 2016 a joint numismatic product to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of former Prime Minister of Malta, Dom Mintoff, consisting of silver coin and a silver foil stamp replica.

In the first half of 2016, the number of counterfeit euro banknotes reported to the Central Bank of Malta amounted to 2,371 pieces, practically equivalent to the amount found in the first half of 2015.
