Euro changeover in Latvia and exchange of Latvian lats

Latvia will join the euro area on 1 January 2014, replacing its national currency, the lats, with the euro. As a service to the public, all euro area central banks, including the Central Bank of Malta, will exchange without charge lats banknotes for euro during January and February 2014.

Lats banknotes may be exchanged from 2 January to 28 February 2014 at the Central Bank of Malta Annexe at St James’s Counterguard, Valletta, from Monday to Friday from 08:30 to 13:00. Banknotes will be exchanged at the irrevocably fixed conversion rate of EUR1=LVL0.702804 up to a limit of EUR1,000 per transaction.

Images of exchangeable lats banknotes can be viewed on the website of the European Central Bank at: http://www.ecb.europa.eu/euro/exchange/lv/html/index.en.html
