The Gozo boat was also known as tal-latini and evolved from the xprunara. The two types of boats had the same hull construction and sail arrangement. The Gozo boat was painted in the traditional colours: green, blue, red and yellow. The boats essentially ferried passengers, beasts and merchandise between Malta and Gozo. A Gozo boat painted in black was kept for the conveyance of corpses between the two islands. A good and reliable service by motor-driven vessels brought about the demise of the traditional Gozo boat.
