William Gatt Fenech

Dr William Gatt Fenech manages the Financial Stability Research Office, where he leads and coordinates research on financial stability and macroprudential policy and provides briefings to the Bank's Financial Stability Committee. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Nottingham, and undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from the University of Malta. He is also an External Research Fellow at the Centre for Finance, Credit and Macroeconomics at the University of Nottingham.

Prior to his current role, Dr Gatt Fenech worked in the Bank's Economic Research Department, focusing on a range of topics including household saving behaviour, inflation forecasting, and the housing market. He also contributed to the development of semi-structural and structural models used for policy analysis and forecasting.

His research has been published locally and in several leading international peer-reviewed journals, such as the Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, the Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, and the Journal of Economic Surveys. In addition to his research contributions, he serves as a referee for academic journals and regularly delivers technical training courses to staff. He has also lectured on macroeconomics, mathematics and econometrics at the University of Malta and the University of Nottingham.
