Owen Grech

Owen Grech is the Manager of the Modelling Office within the Research Department at the Central Bank of Malta, where he oversees the development and maintenance of the Bank's economic models. In previous roles, he was responsible for producing the Bank's macroeconomic forecasts and served as the lead in developing its core macro-econometric model of the Maltese economy. Mr Grech has conducted research on a range of macroeconomic topics, which has been presented and published both locally and internationally. He is a member of the European Central Bank's Working Group on Econometric Modelling and was previously a member of the Heads of Research Committee.

Between 2019 and 2023, Mr Grech was on secondment at the National Statistics Office, where he served as the Director of Economic Statistics. He is also a Visiting Senior Lecturer at the University of Malta's Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy and has delivered courses as part of the Bank's training programme. His main research interests lie in the fields of macroeconomic modelling and forecasting, fiscal policy, and growth economics. He holds economics degrees from the University of Malta and the University of Warwick and is a Chevening scholar.
