The Prime Minister has appointed Prof. Lauren Ellul B.Accty. (Hons), M.B.A. (Exec.) (Edin. & E.N.P.C.), F.I.A., C.P.A., Ph.D. (Birm.) to serve as Director of the Bank in terms of the Central Bank of Malta Act (Cap. 204) for a period of five years with effect from 2 February 2022.
Prof. Ellul holds a Bachelor of Accountancy Honours degree from the University of Malta, an Executive Masters in Business Administration, accredited by the University of Edinburgh in association with École Nationale des Ponts (ENPC) School of International Management Paris and KPMG and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Birmingham.
Prof. Ellul is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a Practising Certificate in Auditing. She is also a Fellow Member of the Malta Institute of Accountants.
Prof. Ellul is the Head of Department of Accountancy in the Faculty of Economics, Management & Accountancy at the University of Malta. She lectures in undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the areas of public sector accounting and finance, management accounting and research issues. Prof. Ellul is a Member of the Accountancy Board and sits on its Quality Assurance Oversight and Education Subcommittees. She is also a Director of the Malta Investment Management Co. Ltd. and Malta Government Investment Boards. Prof. Ellul also chairs the Audit Committee of the Malta Business Registry.
She has served as a member of the Board of Governors of the Malta Financial Services Authority from 2015 to 2020 and has chaired the Audit Committee of the Authority from 2018 to 2020. She has also served as a member of the Board of Governors of the Lands Authority.
Prof. Ellul has worked within the Advisory function of a Big-4 accounting firm for a number of years and held the position of Senior Manager within the Corporate Finance team. She has managed engagements providing assistance to clients, including many of the listed entities on the local stock exchange, with respect to valuations of businesses and equity holdings, raising debt and equity financing, accounting advice, business planning, financial reviews, valuations for financial reporting purposes and impairment reviews.
