The world-wide community of museums celebrates International Museum Day on 18 May 2017!
In light of this year's theme (Museums and Contested Histories: Saying the unspeakable in museums), local artist, Dr TREVOR BORG will be delivering an exclusive talk on the realm of collecting as a form of artistic practice.
'Uncollectables' acquire meaning and value through the transformative process of art making whereby new histories are produced and realities imagined. Collection-based artworks imbricate non-taxonomic methods that evoke the cabinet of curiosities with contemporary critical discourse and, from such an amalgam, new possibilities for meaning-making may emerge. Moreover, uncollectable artefacts loosely located in a museological milieu allow for unlikely and ambiguous connections and assemblages comprised of fluid accumulations and juxtapositions.
The gallery talk is free of charge. Entrance to the gallery is through Ġlormu Cassar street (the road leading up to Castille Square).
The Victor Pasmore Gallery is managed by Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti, in collaboration with the Central Bank of Malta, the Victor Pasmore Foundation and Palazzo Falson Historic House Museum, and is endorsed by the Valletta 2018 Foundation.
