Ian Debattista is a Senior Economist within the Economic Analysis Department at the Central Bank of Malta. His primary areas of interest include fiscal developments, debt sustainability, monetary developments, and microsimulation modelling. Mr Debattista has years of experience in financial stability, supported by a strong background in stress testing and macroprudential policies.
His research has primarily focused on the application of stress testing to households using microdata, with particular emphasis on understanding the impact of economic shocks on household debt and financial resilience. As part of the fiscal team, Mr Debattista is working to enhance the debt sustainability toolkit at the Central Bank and is also exploring new areas of research in fiscal policy and leveraging microdata to extend insights.
Mr Debattista holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree in Economics from the University of Malta, a Master of Science in Economics from VU Amsterdam, and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Data Science at the University of London.
